This tutorial covers the uses and features of Brand Portal, integrating AEM with it, and working in it.
What Brand Portal is for
Brand Portal is Adobe's cloud-based SaaS offering for distributing approved creative assets. It lets you acquire, control and securely distribute assets to external parties — partners, agencies, resellers — and to internal business users, on any device. It makes asset sharing more efficient, shortens time to market for assets, and reduces the risk of non-compliance and unauthorized access. Brand Portal is licensed by Adobe, and its customization options are limited.
Asset distribution features
With AEM 6.5, Brand Portal gained:
- better user reporting (logins, shares)
- browse and search enhancements
- file acceleration for downloads
- guest access
- scheduled publishing
- Dynamic Media video support
- a configurable URL
- folder hierarchy support for multi-brand and team use
- access restrictions on original assets
- additional admin configurations
- performance improvements
Asset sourcing
Brand Portal also works in the other direction — collecting assets from outside the company:
- share folders directly from the DAM with an external agency
- external agencies and teams upload brand and campaign assets on Brand Portal
- publish those assets to the DAM for review and multichannel campaign use
- a contributor role for external agency users
- admin configurations to control upload sizes
Integrating AEM with Brand Portal
Brand Portal integrates with AEM Assets: assets are published from AEM to Brand Portal, and sourced assets are published back from Brand Portal to the DAM. Users on Brand Portal see only what has been published to them, never the rest of the DAM.
Brand Portal, Asset Share Commons or Dynamic Media?
Asset Share Commons does a similar job as an open-source reference implementation you can customize freely; Dynamic Media is for rich media delivery and Creative Cloud collaboration. The full comparison is in Brand Portal vs Asset Share Commons vs Dynamic Media.
